victory lap

Celebratory post-competition circuit

A victory lap is a circuit around a track or field taken by a winner to acknowledge the crowd's applause.

The term extends to any celebratory display after an achievement: After the deal closed, the CEO went on a victory lap of media appearances.

Sometimes used sarcastically when someone celebrates prematurely or excessively.
