trekker

Long-distance walker

A trekker is someone who makes a long, arduous journey on foot, especially through wilderness or mountainous terrain: The trekkers set out for base camp at dawn.

The word implies more challenge and adventure than hiker.

In fan culture, Trekker (often capitalized) is an alternative to Trekkie for devoted fans of Star Trek.
