A toon is an animated cartoon character, especially one from classic animation or video games: The toons in that movie interact with live actors.
The word emerged from animation industry slang and gaming culture.
Toon can also refer to a cartoon itself: I watched Saturday morning toons as a kid.
In online gaming, toon often means a player's character or avatar.
