thought police
Opinion crime investigators
Thought police are authorities who monitor and punish unorthodox beliefs or expressions.
The term comes from George Orwell's novel *1984*, where the Thought Police enforce ideological conformity through surveillance and terror.
Now used figuratively for anyone perceived as enforcing political correctness or suppressing dissent: The thought police on social media will cancel you for that opinion.
