wrongthink

Unapproved mental dissent

Wrongthink is holding opinions or beliefs deemed unacceptable by a dominant group or authority.

The term derives from George Orwell's *1984*, where "thoughtcrime" described forbidden ideas.

In contemporary use, wrongthink often appears sarcastically to criticize perceived ideological conformity: Expressing any wrongthink gets you canceled these days.

The word implies that certain views are treated as inherently illegitimate rather than merely incorrect.
