telephotography

Remote image transmission

Telephotography is photography of distant subjects using telephoto lenses or similar equipment that magnifies the image.

The term covers both the technique and the resulting images: wildlife telephotography requires patience and specialized gear.

In older usage, telephotography also meant transmitting photographs over telegraph or telephone lines—a sense now obsolete.
