surtitles
Opera translation display
Surtitles are translations or transcriptions projected above a stage during opera, theater, or other live performances, allowing audiences to follow dialogue or lyrics in an unfamiliar language.
The term combines "sur" (above) with "titles," distinguishing them from subtitles, which appear below.
The surtitles helped me follow the Italian libretto.
