subtweet

Passive-aggressive post

A subtweet is a tweet that refers to someone without mentioning them by name or tagging their account, usually to criticize or mock them while maintaining plausible deniability: She didn't name names, but everyone knew who the subtweet was about.

The practice has spread beyond Twitter to describe any indirect public callout on social media.

As a verb, to subtweet someone is to post such a message about them.
