call out

Denounce someone's behavior

To call out is to shout or summon: She called out his name across the crowded room.

More recently, call out means to publicly criticize someone for wrongdoing or hypocrisy: He got called out for his offensive tweets.

This sense emerged from social justice discourse and now appears broadly.

A call-out is such a public criticism.

To call out sick is to notify work of an absence due to illness.
