Seen notification feature
Read receipts are notifications confirming that a message has been opened by its recipient.
Common in texting and email, they tell the sender exactly when their message was seen: She left me on read for three hours.
The feature is often controversial—some find it useful for accountability, others find it intrusive or anxiety-inducing.
Many apps let users disable them.
