standard deviation
Dispersion from mean
Standard deviation is a statistical measure of how spread out values are from the average.
A low standard deviation means data points cluster tightly around the mean; a high one means they're widely dispersed.
It's fundamental to probability and statistics, appearing in everything from quality control to financial risk assessment: The test scores had a standard deviation of twelve points.
