marksman
Expert with rifles
A marksman is someone skilled at shooting, particularly with accuracy at a target.
The term applies across contexts—military snipers, competitive shooters, and hunters may all be called marksmen.
In military rankings, marksman often designates a basic level of shooting proficiency, below sharpshooter or expert.
The marksman hit the bullseye from fifty yards.
Though historically gendered, the term now applies regardless of sex, though markswoman occasionally appears.
