machine gun
Rapid-fire weapon
A machine gun is a firearm that fires continuously as long as the trigger is held down, using the energy from each shot to load and fire the next.
Distinguished from semi-automatic weapons, which require a separate trigger pull for each round.
The term extends to any rapid-fire weapon: The comedian machine-gunned jokes at the audience.
To machine-gun is to spray with automatic fire.
