giant slalom

Downhill through poles

Giant slalom is an alpine skiing race where competitors navigate a course of widely spaced gates, requiring broad, sweeping turns at high speed.

It falls between slalom (tighter turns, closer gates) and super-G (faster, fewer gates) in technical difficulty.

The course typically drops several hundred meters over roughly a minute of racing.
