discus
Heavy athletic disc
A discus is a heavy disk thrown as an athletic event, one of the oldest Olympic sports.
The thrower spins in a circle to build momentum before releasing.
The shape extends to anything disk-like: a discus fish, a discus-shaped UFO.
The event itself is also called the discus: She competed in the discus.
