skeletonization
Tissue completely removed
Skeletonization is the process of reducing something to its skeleton—either literally or figuratively.
In biology, it describes tissue decomposing until only bones remain, or insects eating leaves down to their veins.
In image processing, it means reducing a shape to its essential lines or framework: The algorithm performs skeletonization to extract the letter's basic structure.
The word generally suggests stripping away everything but the underlying form.
