center pole
Circus tent support
A center pole is the main vertical support in a structure, particularly the central mast that holds up a circus tent or similar canopy.
The term extends to any pole positioned at the center of an arrangement: The center pole of the tipi rose through the smoke hole.
In tent setups, the center pole bears the greatest load and determines the structure's height.
