servomotor

Precision positioning motor

A servomotor is an electric motor designed for precise control of position, speed, or acceleration.

Unlike ordinary motors that simply spin, servomotors incorporate feedback mechanisms that allow them to move to exact positions and hold them: The robot arm's servomotors positioned the welding torch with millimeter accuracy.

Common in robotics, CNC machines, and radio-controlled models.

Often shortened to servo.
