scenthound
Scent-tracking canine breed
A scenthound is a hunting dog bred to track prey by smell rather than sight.
Breeds like bloodhounds, beagles, and foxhounds have long ears, loose facial skin, and powerful noses suited to following trails over great distances.
Scenthounds typically work in packs and bay when they've cornered their quarry.
Contrast with sighthound.
