A mixed breed is an animal—especially a dog—whose parents are of different breeds, or whose ancestry includes multiple breeds rather than a single documented lineage.
The term is neutral, contrasting with purebred: She adopted a mixed breed from the shelter.
Also called a mutt or, for dogs, a mongrel.
