harrier
Low-flying raptor type
A harrier is a slender, long-winged hawk that hunts by flying low over open ground, scanning for small mammals and birds.
The name also applies to a breed of hound used for hunting hares, and to cross-country runners—both pursuing quarry across rough terrain.
The harrier glided low over the marsh, searching for voles. (Capitalized Harrier is a military aircraft.)
