redistricting

Electoral map revision

Redistricting is the process of redrawing electoral district boundaries, typically after a census reveals population shifts.

In the United States, state legislatures redistrict congressional and state legislative maps every ten years.

When the party in power draws boundaries to maximize its electoral advantage, the practice is called gerrymandering: The redistricting plan was challenged in court.
