Whitening wash agent
Bluing is a substance added to laundry rinse water to counteract yellowing in white fabrics.
The faint blue tint neutralizes yellow tones, making whites appear brighter.
Bluing also refers to the process of applying a blue-black finish to steel, particularly gun barrels, to prevent rust and reduce glare: The gunsmith did the bluing on my revolver.
