chambering

Inserting into breech

Chambering is the act of loading a round into the chamber of a firearm, readying it to fire: He chambered a round and took aim.

In gunsmithing, chambering refers to cutting the chamber in a barrel to accept a specific cartridge.

A rifle chambered in .308 accepts that caliber ammunition.

The term also appears in architecture for creating recessed spaces in stone or wood.
