raven
Intelligent black corvid
A raven is a large black bird of the crow family, known for its intelligence and harsh croaking call.
Ravens appear frequently in mythology and literature as symbols of death, prophecy, or ill omen.
The word also describes a glossy blue-black color, especially of hair: raven locks, raven-haired.
As a verb, to raven is to devour greedily or prey upon—an older usage now mainly literary. (Capitalized Raven may be a given name or team mascot.)
