starve

Lack all nourishment

To starve is to suffer or die from lack of food.

The word extends to any severe deprivation: starved for attention, starving for affection.

In casual speech, I'm starving is hyperbole for being very hungry.

To starve someone out is to force their surrender by cutting off food supplies.

The besieged city was starved into submission.
