Nevermore

Dark bird's word

Nevermore means never again—at no future time: Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore".

The word is literary and archaic, now used almost exclusively as an allusion to Edgar Allan Poe's poem "The Raven," where a bird's repeated refrain drives the narrator to despair.

Outside quotation, nevermore sounds deliberately poetic or melodramatic.
