quant
Wall Street statistician
A quant is a person who specializes in quantitative analysis—typically in finance, where quants develop mathematical models for pricing, trading, and risk assessment.
The term comes from "quantitative analyst" and carries connotations of heavy mathematics and computer programming: The hedge fund hired a team of quants from MIT.
In British usage, quant is also a pole used to propel a punt or barge through shallow water.
