chartist

Pattern-seeking trader

A chartist is someone who analyzes price charts and trading patterns to predict future market movements.

Chartists study graphs of stock prices, trading volumes, and other market data, looking for recurring patterns rather than examining company fundamentals.

The approach is also called technical analysis. (Capitalized Chartist refers to a member of the 19th-century British reform movement.)
