proscriptions
Formal forbidden decrees
Proscriptions are official prohibitions or bans—rules that forbid certain actions or behaviors.
The word carries more weight than simple rules; proscriptions suggest formal condemnation: religious proscriptions against eating pork, proscriptions on trade with enemy nations.
In ancient Rome, proscription meant publishing a list of people condemned to death or exile, their property forfeit.
That sense of official denunciation lingers in modern use.
