pod people

Replaced by copies

Pod people are individuals who seem to have lost their personality or independent thought, becoming conformist or emotionally vacant.

The term comes from the 1956 film *Invasion of the Body Snatchers*, where aliens replaced humans with duplicates grown in pods.

Now used for anyone who seems to have been replaced by a blander version of themselves: Ever since he started that corporate job, he's become one of the pod people.

The phrase often implies suspicion about sudden personality changes or groupthink.
