dread

Fear of coming

Dread is intense fear or apprehension, especially about something anticipated: She felt a growing dread as the court date approached.

To dread something is to fear or be reluctant to face it: I dread going to the dentist.

As an adjective, dread means feared or fearsome—mostly literary now: the dread pirate, dread disease.

Dreaded serves the same function in everyday speech: the dreaded Monday meeting.
