pinfish

Small spiny panfish

A pinfish is a small, silvery fish with sharp dorsal spines, common along the Atlantic coast from New England to the Gulf of Mexico.

Named for its needle-like spines, it frequents seagrass beds and is popular as live bait for larger game fish: We caught some pinfish to use for redfish bait.
