oyster bed
Underwater shell colony
An oyster bed is an area of shallow coastal water where oysters grow, either naturally or cultivated commercially.
The term bed reflects the flat expanse of the seafloor where the shellfish cluster: The hurricane destroyed several oyster beds in the bay.
Also called an oyster bank.
