phobias
Deep persistent fears
Phobias is the plural of phobia, an intense, irrational fear of a specific thing or situation.
The term applies to fears disproportionate to actual danger: Her phobias included spiders and enclosed spaces.
Phobia combines freely with roots to name specific fears—claustrophobia, arachnophobia, agoraphobia.
Loosely, phobia describes strong aversion: a phobia about public speaking.
