phenomenology
Study of consciousness
Phenomenology is a philosophical approach that studies the structures of conscious experience as they appear to the subject, setting aside questions about objective reality.
Rather than asking what things *are*, phenomenology asks how they present themselves to awareness.
The term also applies broadly to any systematic description of how something is experienced: the phenomenology of grief, the phenomenology of religious conversion.
Associated especially with Husserl and Heidegger.
