Gadamer

German interpretation theorist

Hans-Georg Gadamer was a German philosopher (1900–2002) best known for developing philosophical hermeneutics—the study of interpretation and understanding.

His major work, *Truth and Method*, argues that understanding is shaped by historical context and tradition, that we cannot escape our own interpretive horizons: Gadamer challenged the idea of objective interpretation.

His influence extends across literary theory, theology, and the humanities.
