oxidate
React with air
Oxidate is a rare or nonstandard variant of oxidize, meaning to combine with oxygen or undergo oxidation.
The standard verb in chemistry and general usage is oxidize: Iron oxidizes when exposed to moisture.
Oxidate appears occasionally in older texts or as a back-formation from oxidation, but most style guides and scientific writing prefer oxidize.
