oxidant

Electron-stealing compound

An oxidant is a substance that causes oxidation in another substance—typically by accepting electrons or adding oxygen.

Oxygen itself is the most familiar oxidant; others include chlorine, hydrogen peroxide, and ozone.

In rocketry, the oxidant combines with fuel to enable combustion: liquid oxygen as an oxidant.

Also called an oxidizer or oxidizing agent.
