adjust
Make small changes
Adjust means to change or move something slightly to achieve a better fit, position, or result.
You adjust a thermostat to change the temperature, adjust your grip on a tennis racket, or adjust the rearview mirror before driving.
The word extends to non-physical contexts: you might adjust your expectations, adjust to a new time zone, or adjust your strategy when circumstances change.
It took me a few weeks to adjust to the new job.
An adjustment is an instance of adjusting.
