long multiplication
Multi-digit product method
Long multiplication is the standard method for multiplying multi-digit numbers by hand, working through each digit systematically and adding the partial products.
Students learn it in elementary school as an alternative to mental math or calculators: Show your work using long multiplication.
The method scales to numbers of any size, though it becomes tedious with very large figures.
