save point
Game resume marker
A save point is a location or moment in a video game where progress can be recorded, allowing players to resume from that spot if they fail or quit.
The term extends metaphorically to any situation where you'd like to preserve your current state before risking something: I wish life had save points.
Some games offer save points at fixed locations; others allow saving anywhere.
