modifier
Word that adjusts
A modifier is a word or phrase that limits or qualifies another word's meaning.
Adjectives modify nouns: red car, hungry child.
Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs: ran quickly, very tall, quite well.
Modifiers can dangle when their grammatical connection is unclear: Walking home, the rain started—who was walking?
To modify something is also to change it slightly: We modified the recipe to reduce sugar.
