predicative

Following the copula

Predicative describes a word or phrase that appears after a verb rather than before a noun.

In the house is old, old is predicative—it follows the verb and describes the subject.

This contrasts with attributive position, where the adjective precedes the noun: the old house.

Some adjectives work only predicatively: you can say the child is asleep but not the asleep child.
