Final Fantasy is a long-running Japanese role-playing video game series launched in 1987.
Each numbered installment tells a standalone story with new characters and worlds, though recurring elements—chocobos, summons, crystals, a character named Cid—thread through the franchise.
The name reportedly reflected creator Hironobu Sakaguchi's belief that the game would be his final project before leaving the industry.
I spent the whole summer playing Final Fantasy VII.
