modifier key

Keyboard command enabler

A modifier key is a key on a computer keyboard that changes the function of other keys when held down simultaneously.

The main modifier keys are Shift, Control (Ctrl), Alt, and Command (on Mac).

Pressing a modifier key alone typically does nothing; it works in combination: Hold the modifier key and press C to copy.
