mitering

Cutting angled joints

Mitering is the act of cutting or joining materials at an angle, typically 45 degrees, so two pieces meet to form a corner.

The technique appears most often in woodworking and picture framing: mitering the baseboards, mitering the corners of the frame.

A miter joint creates clean corners without exposed end grain.

Also spelled mitring.
