Holy Communion
Bread and wine
Holy Communion is the Christian rite in which believers receive consecrated bread and wine in remembrance of Christ's sacrifice.
Catholics call it the Eucharist and hold that the elements literally transform; most Protestant churches treat them as symbolic memorials.
The ritual marks full participation in the faith: After her confirmation, she took Holy Communion for the first time. (Also appears lowercase as holy communion.)
