mortise and tenon
Interlocking wood connection
A mortise and tenon is a joint in woodworking where a projecting piece (the tenon) fits into a corresponding hole (the mortise).
One of the oldest and strongest methods of joining wood, it appears in furniture, timber framing, and cabinetry: The chair legs are attached with mortise and tenon joints.
