millenarianism
Apocalyptic golden age
Millenarianism is belief in a coming period of radical transformation—often a thousand-year golden age or the imminent end of the present world order.
The term derives from Christian prophecy about Christ's thousand-year reign, but extends to secular movements expecting apocalyptic change: revolutionary politics, utopian communes, doomsday cults.
Millenarian movements often arise during times of social upheaval.
Also spelled millennialism.
